1. The short version
Every ShiftRoot payment is processed by Apple, not by us. That means refunds are requested from Apple and decided by Apple — we cannot charge your card, and we cannot refund it either.
Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple usually decides within 24–48 hours.
Cancelling is not the same as a refund. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not return money already taken. See section 8.
This page explains exactly when a refund is normally approved, when it is normally refused, and what to do in either case. It applies alongside our Subscription Terms.
2. Who actually issues refunds
ShiftRoot Premium is sold exclusively through the Apple App Store. Apple collects the payment, holds the billing relationship, and issues any refund under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Because of this, TECHOCTO TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED:
- never receives or stores your card details;
- cannot process, force, or guarantee a refund;
- cannot see the outcome of your refund request unless you tell us.
We can still help — by confirming what happened on your account, correcting anything on our side, and supporting your case with Apple. See section 10.
3. How to request a refund
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID that made the purchase.
- Choose Request a refund.
- Select a reason that matches your situation — being accurate here matters, because Apple weighs it.
- Choose the ShiftRoot charge, then submit.
You can also do this on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → View Account → Purchase History, then tap the charge and choose Report a Problem.
Apple typically responds within 24–48 hours, though it can take longer. If approved, the money is returned to your original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
4. When a refund is normally approved
These are the situations where a refund request usually succeeds. In each of them, we will support your case if Apple asks us or if you forward the details to us.
- You were charged after cancelling in time. If you cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal and were still billed, that is a billing error and should be refunded.
- You were charged during or at the end of a free trial that you cancelled in time.
- You were charged twice for the same period, or charged for a plan you did not select.
- Premium never activated. You paid but the paid features did not unlock, and restoring purchases and reinstalling did not fix it.
- The app was unusable because of a fault on our side for a significant part of the period you paid for, and we could not resolve it.
- The purchase was unauthorised — for example made by a child or another family member without permission.
- You are exercising a statutory right that applies to you (see section 11).
Apple still makes the final decision in every one of these cases, but they are the strongest grounds.
5. When a refund is normally refused
We want to be straightforward rather than leave you guessing. Requests in these situations are usually declined — by Apple, and we will not normally ask Apple to overturn them.
- You forgot to cancel before the renewal date. This is by far the most common request. Renewal dates are shown in your Apple ID settings, we remind you 2 days before a free trial ends, and cancelling takes under a minute. Forgetting is not usually grounds for a refund.
- You changed your mind after using Premium. Once you have had access to the paid features for a meaningful part of the period, the service has been delivered.
- You did not use the app. Not opening ShiftRoot during a period you paid for is not a fault in the service.
- The results were not what you hoped. ShiftRoot gives you tools and friction; it cannot guarantee that your screen time falls, that you sleep better, or that you wake up earlier. Those outcomes depend on you.
- You lost a streak. Streaks reset when you use an honest override or miss one of the three daily conditions. That is the feature working as described, including when it costs you a discount or a place on the leaderboard.
- You want the unused part of a period back. When you cancel, you keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not refund the remainder on a pro-rata basis.
- Your account was terminated for breaking our Terms — for example falsifying streaks. See fair play.
- A blocked app was bypassed. As explained in our safety section, iOS blocking can be circumvented and is not a guarantee.
- An alarm did not go off because of a flat battery, a silenced or restarted device, or a revoked permission. We ask you not to rely on ShiftRoot as your only alarm for anything critical.
- You were charged a price you had already agreed to, including after a price change Apple notified you about in advance.
6. Avoiding the charge in the first place
The surest way to avoid needing a refund is to decide during the free trial.
- Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. Nothing is charged during it.
- We email or notify you 2 days before the trial ends.
- Cancel at any point before the last 24 hours and you will not be charged at all — and you keep Premium until the trial period runs out.
If you are unsure whether ShiftRoot is for you, set a reminder for day 5 of your trial.
7. Cancelling is not the same as a refund
Deleting the ShiftRoot app, or deleting your ShiftRoot account, does not cancel your subscription and does not stop billing. Subscriptions live with your Apple ID and must be cancelled through Apple.
To cancel: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → ShiftRoot → Cancel Subscription.
| Cancelling | Refund | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Stops future charges | Returns money already taken |
| Who handles it | You, in Apple settings | Apple, on request |
| Access afterwards | Keeps working to period end | Usually revoked immediately |
| Always available? | Yes | No — at Apple's discretion |
Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date, or the next period will be charged.
8. If Apple declines, or something went wrong on our side
Apple's decision on a refund is final and we cannot overturn it. But we would still like to hear from you, because some problems we can fix.
Email support@techocto.com with your Apple receipt or order ID, the email on your ShiftRoot account, and a short description of what happened. We will:
- check what actually occurred on your account — whether Premium activated, when it was cancelled, whether a fault on our side affected you;
- correct anything that is our mistake;
- where a genuine fault on our side cost you a period you paid for, offer a goodwill remedy we can control, such as extending your Premium access at no charge;
- confirm the facts in writing so you can put them to Apple in a further request.
We aim to reply within 2 business days, and to resolve matters within 15 days.
9. Your statutory rights
Nothing on this page limits rights you have by law.
- India. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 are unaffected. Complaints may also be raised with our grievance contact in the Privacy Policy.
- UK and EEA. Consumers normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a digital purchase. Note that where you ask for immediate access to Premium and acknowledge it at purchase, that right can end once supply begins — but your rights in respect of a faulty or misdescribed service remain.
- Elsewhere. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence continue to apply.
If a term of this policy conflicts with a right you cannot legally waive, that right prevails.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page always shows the current version, and the version that applies to a purchase is the one published when the purchase was made.
